Cricket umpire soften are often under the scanner for their wrong calls and hurried decisions on the field. A similar incident occurred in the Asia Cup 2022 super four game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The on-field umpire signalled for a DRS review, even though Pakistan captain Babar Azam did not request one.

On Hassan Ali's second delivery, Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan appealed for set-batter Pathum Nissanka's wicket in the 16th over. Rizwan believed the ball had edged the bat before he grabbed it and requested a review after the umpire denied his initial appeal. The umpire immediately signalled a DRS review, and viral footage showed skipper Babar Azam surprised that the umpire called for review without his request.

As for the match, Sri Lanka emerged victorious by five wickets in a low-scoring encounter. Pakistan was restricted to 121 runs in the first innings by Lankan spinners who were on top of their game. Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed a three-wicket haul. He got the important wickets of Babar Azam, Ifthikar Ahmed, and Asif Ali.

For the men in green, captain Babar Azam, with his score of 30 runs in 29 balls, was the highest scorer. None of their batters could do much as they were all out for a score of 121 runs with five balls to spare.

The Asia Cup hosts lost a few wickets early on in the chase, but opener Pathum Nissanka led the way for his team. He was given good support by Bhanuka Rajapaksa and skipper Dasun Shanaka, who scored 24 and 21 runs, respectively. The opener remained not out on 55 in 48 balls to take his team through in 17 overs.

The two teams will now meet in the final of the intercontinental tournament on the 11th of September. The Dubai International Stadium will host the all-important encounter. The two teams had a great run in the super four stages as they knocked India out of the competition. They will now look to put up a good battle in the final.
