The 26th clash of the Women’s Big Bash League was played between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars on Wednesday at North Sydney Oval, Sydney. Adelaide Strikers captain Tahlia McGrath won the toss and opted to bowl first. Melbourne Stars’ openers Winfield Hill and Jemimah Rodrigues walked out to open the innings. However, it was Tess Flintoff who stole the limelight by scoring the fastest fifty in the history of WBBL.
Rodrigues got out early having scored just 8 runs. Following Rodrigues’ dismissal, Alice Capsey walked to the crease. Hill and Capsey stitched a magnificent partnership of 81 runs for the second wicket. After the partnership ended, Tess Flintoff walked out to the middle at no 5 and looked in great touch right from ball one.
Flintoff broke the previous record fastest fifty off 22 balls by smashing a six off the final ball of the innings to push the Stars to 5-186 at North Sydney Oval. The 19-year-old's blistering knock of 51 off 16 balls consisted of six fours and three sixes.

Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and South African Lizelle Lee shared the previous record for the fastest 50 in the Women’s Big Bash League off 22 balls. Both batters achieved the feat in the same game back in 2017.
Adelaide Striker’s chase got off to a miserable start as they lost star batter Deandra Dottin on the score of 5. Katie Mack and Laura Wolvaardt stabilised the innings with a 62-run stand. After the partnership ended, Bridget Patterson decided to take on the Star’s bowlers. She ended up scoring a magnificent 41 off 23 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. Patterson was involved in a 48-run stand with Madeline Penna for the fifth wicket.
Penna scored 22 off 16 balls smashing two sixes in her innings. After their partnership ended, no other batter could take their team home. As a result, Melbourne Stars won the match by 22 runs as the Strikers could only manage to reach 164/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Sasha Moloney picked up four wickets to help her team register a comfortable victory.
Tess Flintoff was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for her record-shattering fifty.
