India squared off against New Zealand in the send T20I after losing the first contest on January 29, Sunday and much to the delight of the Indian fans, it was the Hardik Pandya-led team which took home the glory. However, it was a low-scoring contest with both teams fighting it out till the fag end of the match.

Chasing a meagre target of 100, the Men in Blue managed to chase down the target with just 1 ball to spare and one could understand that the Kiwis left no stone unturned to give a game out of the lowest total against India in the shortest format of the game. With no sixes in both innings, the face-off turned out to be an enchanting and competitive one.

However, during the chase, there was a mix-up between specialist batter Suryakumar Yadav and allrounder Washington Sundar, with the former being left fuming after an error from the southpaw that resulted in a run-out. To everyone’s delight, the right-hander apologised later on claiming that it was his fault and not Sundar’s.

India pull-off thrilling win in low-scoring encounter vs Black Caps

The Indian team were brimming with confidence and eventually restricted the New Zealanders to just 99 at the end of the first innings, Shivam Mavi being the only bowler going wicketless. Arshdeep Singh, the left-armer bounced back and picked up a two-for to his name conceding only 7 runs in his spell of two overs.

The pitch, being one of the toughest to bat on, played spoilsport during India’s chase as the players struggled to keep the scoreboard ticking. It was only in the last over, with Suryakumar holding the innings together, they were able to chase it down with 6 wickets to spare and the right-hander remaining unbeaten at 26.

“A different version of SKY today. Adapting to the situation was very important when I went into bat. After losing Washy, it was important for someone to take the game till the end. (On his mix-up with Washington Sundar) It was my mistake, it was definitely not a run, I didn't see where the ball was going. It was a challenging wicket,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying after winning the Player of the Match award in the post-match presentation.
