The fierce battle between two international giants in the first Test of Ashes 2023 is set to be an exciting conclusion, with Australia needing 174 runs and England needing seven wickets to win with 90 overs/one day remaining. The rivalry between the two is not only a contest between bat and ball but also involves mind games, which makes the oldest rivalry in Test cricket even more special.

In a video surfacing on social media, England supporters at Edgbaston can be heard mocking Australia vice-captain Steve Smith as the crowd goes all out to support their home team. During England's second innings on Day 4 of the first Ashes Test on Monday, the crowd chanted, "Cry on the telly, we saw you cry on the telly," targeting Smith, who was fielding towards the Eric Hollies stand.

However, the batting stalwart did not take the taunt seriously as he shook his head to the tune with a smile. England all-rounder Ollie Robinson, who was in the middle, also had a smile on his face after hearing the chants from the supporters.

Watch the video below:

The chants were about Smith, who cried while addressing the media during a press conference after being found guilty of the ball-tampering scandal in 2018. However, after facing a 12-month ban from cricket, the 34-year-old made an impressive return to the field with his batting prowess and even served as a captain in a few Tests.

The first session on Day 5 is crucial for both sides

The outcome of the first Ashes Test cannot be anticipated at this time because both sides are evenly balanced. England will be happy to get the wicket of Smith a few overs before stumps on Day 4, but they still have first-innings centurion Usman Khawaja at the crease. Smith was dismissed cheaply in both innings. He was trapped lbw by Ben Stokes for 16 in the first innings and was caught behind off Stuart Broad for 6 in the second innings.

The first session on the final day will be crucial as Australia will have the upper hand if they can survive, and England will need to take at least two wickets to be in the driver's seat.
