Sri Lanka crossed swords with Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2022. The team came in as underdogs and fired up mid-way. With enough backing from the team management, the team put on a cracking show in the Super 4 round.

Sri Lankan clinched the title after defeating the Men in Green by 23 runs in the high voltage final. The island nation now lies behind India with six titles to their name and registered the most number of wins in the Asia Cup history.

Post-match, it was all about celebrating the win as the country is going through a rough phase. Amid political crisis, the tournament was shifted from Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates although Sri Lanka remained the official host. The Sri Lankan players came up with great celebrations after the win and one video of them dancing has now gone viral. In the video, the team can be seen celebrating the win in high spirits and dancing.

Here's the video:

Sri Lanka - the champions of Asia

Not many expected Sri Lanka to win the title this year on the back of their poor performances. However, the team proved it wrong over time. After facing a humiliating defeat against Afghanistan in the first match, the Sri Lankan team won the second match against Bangladesh. Post victory against the Bangla tigers, it was all Sri Lanka's tournament.

The team defeated Afghanistan, India and Pakistan in the Super 4 round and became the first team to qualify for the finals. Albeit the team struggled at times, the Sri Lankans became the standing example of teamwork. Pakistan forced the Lankan Lions to bat first in the tournament dominated by chasing teams. However, the Dasun Shanaka-led team had other ideas.

Despite losing half of their men, Bhanuka Rajapaksa put on some heroics to help the team amass 170 runs. The Men in Green fell short of confidence and succumbed to 147 runs. The Lankan Lions will look to carry forward the momentum to the 20-20 World Cup 2022 and will try their luck to win the trophy as well.
