Harare Hurricanes won an exciting Super Over battle against Cape Town Samp Army in the Zim Afro T10 2023 on Tuesday at the Harare Sports Club. After both teams scored 115 in 10 overs, it was S Sreesanth's final over brilliance in which he defended 8 runs that pushed the game into the Super Over.
Asked to bat first, the Hurricanes got off to a disastrous start, losing three early wickets. Robin Uthappa (0) and Regis Chakabwa (0) were sent back by West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell in the first over. Cottrell picked up his third wicket by dismissing Evin Lewis for 3 runs in the third over, leaving the opposition in trouble early on.
Captain Eoin Morgan and Mohammed Nabi also failed to find runs. However, South African youngster Donavan Ferreira scored a 33-ball 87 to give the team a competitive total. Ferreira was well supported by Luke Jongwe as the pair added 57 runs for the seventh wicket, with the former scoring the majority of the runs.
In reply, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Tadiwanashe Marumani gave Zamp Army a strong start, adding 32 runs for the first wicket. Gurbaz played some big shots and scored a half-century before breaking his partnership with Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the eighth over.
Sreesanth made his Zim Afro T10 debut memorable
With 8 runs needed in the last over, Morgan gave the ball to Sreesanth, who was playing his first match of the tournament. The former Indian pacer removed Karim Janat on his very first ball and provided a major breakthrough. With 2 runs needed off the last two balls, Sreesanth's brilliant fielding gifted Hurricanes the wicket of Sean Williams. He then held his nerve on the final ball, but Peter Hatzoglou found a single in leg byes, forcing the match to be drawn.
