Coming back to the match, India were in all sorts of trouble after losing four wickets for 31 runs. Kohli and Hardik Pandya stabilized the Indian innings with a massive hundred-run-stand for the fifth wicket. Both batters struggled to find boundaries in their innings with the required run-rate climbing with every dot ball.
The equation came down to 48 from 18 balls with Kohli unbeaten on 46 off 42 balls at that stage. The 33-year-old launched an all-out attack on Pakistan’s premier pacer Shaheen Afridi smashing three fours to get 17 from his over.
With the equation down to 31 from 12, Hardik Pandya couldn’t time the ball well against Haris Rauf which put Kohli under more pressure. The equation further came down to 28 off 8 balls with India desperately searching for a boundary.
Kohli took it upon himself once again to keep his team in the hunt as he slammed a rising slower bouncer down the ground for a massive six. The shot left the crowd and commentators in disbelief. He further hit one more six leaving India with 16 runs to win in the final over.
Kohli smashed another six on the fourth ball of the over to seal the deal for India. Ravichandran Ashwin scored the final run on the last ball in the dramatic final over. Kohli was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning 82 off 53 balls.
