The Indian T20 squad has seen a major change since the T20 World Cup 2022 concluded, with senior players making way for youngsters. There are rumours that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not be part of India's T20 set-up as the selectors look to revamp the squad with young talent led by Hardik Pandya.

Though Kohli and Rohit are still on 'active status' in all three formats, they have been limited to ODIs and Tests for a while now. Both were part of the recently concluded Test and 50-over series against West Indies, but have been rested for the ongoing five-match T20I series. While all of this suggests that India have moved on from them in the shorter format, many believe that they are now focused on the forthcoming ODI World Cup.

Rohit faced heavy criticism for his captaincy as India failed to win major tournaments under one of the successful Indian Premier League (IPL) captains. His recent form has also been lacking, raising the possibility that he may give up at least one format after the 2023 World Cup. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper has dismissed all such speculations and dropped a hint about his retirement plans.

In a video that surfaced online ahead of India's second T20I against West Indies, Rohit is seen talking about the 2024 T20 World Cup. After India's 2-1 victory in the ODI series, Rohit travelled to the United States of America for the launch of his cricket academy 'Crickingdom'. Addressing his fans, the 36-year-old expressed his desire to play in the next T20 World Cup which is slated to take place in the United States of America and the West Indies.

"More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I'm pretty sure everyone is excited. So yaa, we look forward to that," Rohit said in the video.
