Neeraj Chopra was named the initial flag bearer for the Indian Contingent at the Commonwealth Games 2022. However, the star athlete had to be ruled out of the Birmingham Games due to injury. India delayed the announcement of the flag bearer’s name as Sindhu was isolated for some time upon arrival.

Later, a proper announcement was made and the enthusiasm boosted further. Shuttler PV Sindhu and Indian men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh lead the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony. The Indian athletes will be participating in 141 events in 19 sports. And more than 200 athletes are aiming to make a name for India.

Notable sports will be Cricket as the women’s team will make their maiden appearance today. Indian women’s cricket team will take on the Australian women’s cricket team at the Edgbaston Stadium.

Meanwhile, the stage was set for the opening ceremony with cheers, music and joy. With huge excitement, the Indian contingent was invited to the Alexandar Stadium that hosted the ceremony.

Birmingham, England’s second-largest city will host the multi-sport event. The city is full of colours, pride and calmness. People are engulfed in the event and are thrilled for the events to get underway. Indian brigade looks stronger than ever, with athletes like PV Sindhu, Amit Panghal, Lovlina Borgohain, and Sakshi Malik. The women’s cricket team looks aggressive and they will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur.

A few have already won medals at the Commonwealth Games, while a few Indian athletes are making their first ever appearance in the multi-sport event. The rest are trying hard to win their first medal in the multi-sport event. Irrespective of the results, the sporting world will be happy about the event. With cheers all around, the event will come to an end on August 8. It will all be hard work until then.
