Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw made his debut for English county club Northamptonshire on Friday. During their first Group B match of the England Domestic One-Day Cup 2023 against Gloucestershire at the College Ground in Cheltenham. But his first outing for the club came to an end in a bizarre way after he got hit-wicket out in an unusual manner.
Shaw was seen as the next young star in Indian cricket after helping India win the U-19 World Cup in 2018 and then scoring a century on his Test debut against West Indies in October of the same year. He has been out of the Indian side for more than two years. His last international match for India was in July 2021 against Sri Lanka, and he had a forgettable IPL season earlier this year.

I don't think it will be the right time to make any adjustments to my game now: Prithvi Shaw
Earlier, Shaw had said that the county stint can be helpful for him to regain his confidence. He stated, "I don't think it will be the right time to make any adjustments to my game now,” Shaw stated. “Whatever adjustments I had to make to my game, has already been done. Once I go there and get my eyes set, I just need to play my natural game." The 23-year-old batter stated, "It's a great opportunity for me and I'm really thankful to Northamptonshire for giving me this chance to express myself here."
The brilliant opener struck 65 off 39 balls in an intra-squad competition, and the footage was published by the county side. The Delhi Capitals hitter had a disastrous IPL 2023 season and was dropped midway through the tournament. Shaw's arrival was delayed because of visa formalities as he could not play two four-day County Championship fixtures.
During the off-season, he joined an English team to play some matches, but after a promising start, Shaw was forced to leave the game in an unusual manner. Gloucestershire bowler Paul van Meekeren caught the right-handed batter off guard with a bouncer, causing him to lose his balance and fall to the ground. During his procedure, he unintentionally kicked his stumps, resulting in his dismissal.
