Trinbago Knight Riders faced off against Saint Lucia Kings in the 24th game of the Caribbean Premier League. Trinbago came out winners as they beat the team from Saint Lucia by 7 wickets. The win meant that Trinbago Knight Riders had two reasons to celebrate. The Knight Riders not only went top of the table but also qualified for the play-off stage.
Kieron Pollard won the toss and chose to bowl first, Saint Lucia had 8 points from the 7 games they had played. A win over Trinbago would have taken them close to Guyana Amazon Warriors who had already qualified for the knockouts.
Peter Hatzogolou's juggling act gets Saint Lucia a huge wicket
Mark Deyal was the star batter for Trinbago Knight Riders with a half-century. The left-hander was going great guns and leading his side to an easy win. Alzarri Joseph bowled a short ball on the pads of Deyal who swung it towards the leg side.
The ball seemed destined to go for a six that’s when Australian player Peter Hatzogolou intervened. The 24-year-old right-arm leg spinner was close to the boundary when he tumbled and completed the catch. The third umpire was called to check the legality of the catch. The batter was given out when it was determined that the catch was legal.
Earlier put into bat first, Saint Lucia scored 167/3 from their 20 overs. Colin Munro top scored with 72 not out off 51 balls. His knock involved 6 fours and 3 sixes. Roston Chase scored 32 while Sean Williams used the long handle well. The Zimbabwe star scored 34 not out off 17 balls with 4 fours and a six.
Chasing 168 to win, Trinbago Knight Riders did not break a sweat and coasted home to a 7-wicket win with 11 balls left to play. Martin Guptill fell early for 16 and Nicolas Pooran was out for 15. The star with the bat was Mark Deyal who scored 57 off 45 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Lorcan Tucker and Andre Russell took the team home to a win as Tucker was not out on 38. Russell scored 29 off a mere 13 balls in his unbeaten knock with 2 fours and 3 sixes. Peter Hatzogolou had a great day in the field as he took all the three catches that came his way.
