The FIFA World Cup 2022 keeps on giving thrilling matches and hasn't disappointed the fans. It has also been a World Cup of upsets. The fans in Qatar have been entertained to the fullest with some high-octane football and it has been a World Cup which just keeps giving.

In what was an anti-climactic end to Brazil’s campaign, the samba dancers emerged only second best against Croatia on Friday. Neymar Jr. thought that he had put Brazil in the box seat when extra time took over. But a late strike from Bruno Petkovic saw the game move into penalties.

Croatia defeated Brazil 4-2 in the penalties to qualify for the semi-finals. When the inevitable happened, Neymar broke down in tears and was inconsolable. Brazil where denied a sixth World Cup title. Tears flowed down the cheeks of Neymar as he could not believe what had transpired just like the Brazilian fans, who were equally shell shocked.

A few of Neymar’s team members also tried to console him but it was all in vain. Brazil will have to drown in agony of getting so near yet so far and also, they will have to wait for another four years to clinch a title. Veteran Thiago Silva was heartbroken that he would have to end his famed football career without a title.

It is difficult," said Silva. "I have been through some disappointments in my life and when we lose something important that we have as an objective it hurts quite a lot. But we have to try to lift our heads and carry on. There is no other alternative."

"I think all of a sudden we lost our concentration," Silva said. "We are not used to being hit on the break like that. We became a little disorganised and that is where the goal came from."

"Sadly as a player I am not going to get to lift this trophy," he said. "Who knows if in future I will get the chance in another role," he added.

Croatia will now face Argentina in the semi finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
