Mushfiqur Rahim was the talk of the cricketing world on Tuesday. The veteran Bangladeshi player was out in the most hilarious way. The incident took place during the third ODI game versus New Zealand in Dhaka.
The New Zealand team led by Lockie Ferguson had won the second game to take 1-0 lead in the series. The first game of the series was washed out due to rain. Najmul Shanto the stand-in skipper won the toss and chose to bat first.
Litton Das, Shakib AL Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, and Mustafizur Rahman had been rested for the game. The Kiwis too made a few changes with Dean Foxcroft and Adam Milne coming into the playing XI.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s dismissal leaves fans in splits
Veteran Bangladeshi wicket-keeper and batter Mushfiqur Rahim was facing Lockie Ferguson. The Kiwi skipper bowled a short ball which rose sharply. Rahim tried to fend off the ball but it was heading for the stumps. The batter tried to kick the ball but it was in vain. The ball eventually made its way to the stump to dislodge the bails as Rahim was out for 18.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh were all out for 171 in 34.3 overs. Adam Milne got the wicket of Zakir Hasan out bowled for 1. Trent Boult then got the wicket of Tanzid Hasan for 5. Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim both fell after getting starts. Hridoy was out-caught by Will Young off Milne for 18 runs.

Mahmudullah joined Najmul Shanto and added 49 runs for the 5th wicket. The veteran batter was out for 21 to become Milne’s third wicket. The top scorer for the home team was Najmul Shanto. The 25-year-old scored 76 runs off 84 balls with 10 fours in his knock. Shanto was the seventh batter to fall as the Bangladeshi batters collapsed.
Adam Milne ended with 4/34 from his 6.2 overs. Trent Boult and Cole McConchie picked two wickets each. Ferguson and Ish Sodhi snared a wicket apiece. The series will rankle Bangladesh with the ODI World Cup 2023 coming close.
Bangladesh are yet to name their 15-man squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. As per the latest reports Shakib Al Hasan could step down from captaincy if Tamim Iqbal is picked. The two senior players have had a falling out as per the Bangladeshi reports.
