India had made a decent start to the World Test Championship (WTC) final, restricting Australia to 76/3 shortly after lunch on Day 1 at the Oval. However, the bowlers were forced to toil hard in the afternoon by Travis Head and Steve Smith, who put on a brilliant partnership to dominate the opening day of the summit showdown. Both of them scored century and helped Australia cross the 300-run mark.

The frustration of leaking runs and not getting any wickets was clearly visible on the faces of the skipper Rohit Sharma and the bowlers. Pacer Mohammed Siraj made obvious as he angrily threw the ball at Australia's batting maestro Smith as he moved away from the delivery at the last moment.

Australia resumed Day 2 at 327/3, with Head nearing 150 and Smith approaching his seventh hundred in England. The Aussie vice-captain reached the milestone with two back-to-back boundaries in the first over bowled by Siraj, hinting that he is going to pick up where he left off yesterday.

Smith backed away on the fourth delivery of the same over as he had some issues with the spidercam. However, this did not go down well with Siraj who was left frustrated, so he angrily threw the ball towards the batting end. The right-handed batter was then seen informing the pacer that the spidey cam was distracting him.

"Steve Smith just backing away. Didn't please Siraj but Smith had every right to move out of the way. It's more the frustration of Siraj being hit for two boundaries. He got sounded off by Rohit Sharma the previous ball," said Ravi Shastri on air.

Siraj, however, looked pumped up after that incident and went on to take Head's wicket. The left-hander completed his 150 and was looking to be on his way to his maiden Test century, but Siraj had him caught behind after a solid 163. It was crucial for India to pick up quick wickets at the start of the second day and Siraj provided the opening. Later, India took three more wickets, including a big one of Smith.
