The 2023 Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka was supposed to be a fair contest between the two teams. Mohammad Siraj though made the stage his own with his brilliant bowling spell. The 29-year-old bowled with fire and pace as he blew the home team away with the new ball.

Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first. Sadly, that was the only thing decision that went his way. Indian seam bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj in particular walked through the opposition batting order.

Sri Lanka was left down in the dump thanks to Mohammad Siraj –

The Sri Lankan openers, Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka strode out to bat on a cloudy day at Colombo. Jasprit Bumrah set the ball rolling when he had Kusal Perera caught behind by KL Rahul for a duck.

After two quiet overs, it was turn for some Siraj mayhem. The fast bowler struck in the first ball of his 2nd over. Pathum Nissanka was caught at the point region in a sharp piece of fielding by Ravindra Jadeja.

Sadeera Samarawickrama walked in to bat after his heroics against Pakistan on Thursday. The right-handed batter survived the first ball, but on the very next ball, Siraj got his man. Samarawickrama was out LBW for a 2nd ball duck.

Charith Asalanka who scored 49 not out against Pakistan was up against the fiery Siraj. The left-hander got a delivery which stopped a bit and Asalanka chipped it to Ishan Kishan who took an easy catch. The home team was in big trouble very early on in their innings.

Dhananjaya De Silva hit a four to prevent Siraj from taking a hat-trick. The next ball Siraj had the last laugh when he had De Silva caught behind by KL Rahul. It was soon wicket number five for Siraj when he went through the gate to bowl Dasun Shanaka for a duck.

Siraj got his 6th wicket when he bowled Kusal Mendis through the gate for 17. Hardik Pandya then got into the act when he had Wellalage caught by KL Rahul for 8. Sri Lanka was destroyed as their score read 40/8 in the 13th over.
