The first ODI between England and Australia is being played at the Adelaide Oval. Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. Australia was right on the money from the first ball as they put the brakes on the scoring and did not allow England to break free. Phil Salt was dismissed by Pat Cummins, and then, in the fourth over, Mitchell Starc bowled a superb inswinger to Jason Roy. It kept Roy in a dilemma of whether to go forward or stay back.

He pushed at the ball with hard hands as the ball snuck past the inside edge. The ball creaked through a gap between bat and pad and Roy did not have any idea how to play the ball. He was beaten. The ball also kept low as compared to the previous deliveries that were bowled.

Here is Mitchell Starc's deliver

England suffered two blows in the initial overs itself and they were put on the back foot straight away as the openers were back in the hut for just 20 runs on the board. Then Australia had firm control of the game as James Vince, Sam Billings and Jos Buttler were dismissed soon after.

At 118-5, Australia were all over England like a rash and had put a firm foothold on the game. Dawid Malan then took England out of troubled waters by playing a cool and calm innings. He went on to score a century to put the team in a good position.

This somewhat brought the Three Lions back into the game but Australia struck back to run Liam Dawson out courtesy of a sharp throw from Ashton Agar. At the time of writing, England is 247-7 at the 44-over mark. Even though this ODI series looks very inconsequential, it will serve as ideal preparation for the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

Australia and England were due to clash in the 20-20 World Cup that just concluded, but the fixture did not take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground because of heavy rains. Australia crashed out of the World event and England won their second 20-20 title since 2010.
