The inaugural premier T20 tournament in South Africa, the SA20 2023, is action-packed, thoroughly entertaining and has truly lived up to its hype so far. Nine matches have been played and it is MI Cape Town that stand at the top of the table with 9 points in four games.

In Match 6 of the SA20 on January 14 in Centurion, which was played between Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, one such incident that caught the eyes of the fans came in the 11th over of the second innings. Eastern Cape skipper Aiden Markram, who was on crease mistimed a shot, consequently launching the ball high into the sky. And the man underneath it was MI Cape Town fielder Migael Pretorius.

Pretorius was positioned perfectly under the ball and it seemed like it was going to be a routine catch for the Cape Town fielder. However, he could not hang on to the ball on the first attempt as the ball popped out immediately off the palms, resulting in it going over his shoulder and behind. And somehow, after another fumble, he dived onto the ground and collected the ball just before the ball dropped onto the ground.

It was Eastern Cape who won the toss and elected to bowl first. Capitals opener Phil Salt lead the charge right from the word go with a majestic 92 off 46, complemented by Theunis de Bruyn with a knock of 42 off 23, coming in at number four. At the end of 20 overs, Capitals finished with a strong total of 216/6.

The pick of the bowlers for Markram’s side was Sisanda Magala, who finished with a spell of 2-28 in four overs. Eastern Cape, in reply, never really were got the grasp of the game with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. Other than their skipper top-scoring with 46 off 29, there was no significant contribution from the rest. And in the end, Eastern Cape could only gather 179 for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
