The dismissal of Jonny Bairstow on the fifth day of the second Test in Ashes at the home of cricket had caused serious discussions among the players, former cricketers, fans, and analysts. The run out of the batter was controversial and the people were divided due to the argument between the rules of cricket and the spirit of the game.
As Australia ran out Bairstow the way they did, the players were not welcomed well by the English fans. The Australian players who were returning to the dressing room after the first session of the fifth day for lunch were abused by the members in the long room. Three members were suspended by the MCC for the actions against the Australian players.
Australian players face abuse in fifth Test
Usman Khawaja was the player who was abused by the members in the long room. It is the same player who is at the receiving end of a similar incident in the fifth Test of the Ashes series. On the fourth day of the fifth Test, as the Australian players were returning to the pavilion, some of the spectators yelled ‘boring’ at the Australian players.
Most of the players ignored the fans on their way. But Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne replied to one of the spectators. The opening batter asked the man to ‘Calm down’. The Australian number 3 said “What did you say? What did you say, mate? You’re just about to go at everyone else” and confronted the man. The fan apologized to the 29-year-old after being confronted. The video of the incident became viral on social media and the fans were quick to share them.

The fourth day of the fifth Test was good for the visiting side. The bowlers dismissed the last standing pair quickly. 384 was the target for Australia to win the game. For the rest of the day, the opening pair of Australia took care of the innings. The duo gave no chance for the English bowlers to settle in the middle. The day ended with a score of 135/0, as the rain had the last laugh.
