Mark Wood, the star pacer of Lucknow, displayed a fiery spell against the Delhi in a recent Indian T20 League encounter. Wood’s devastating five-wicket haul helped his team secure an easy victory. His wickets included those of two key players, Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh, who were dismissed off consecutive deliveries.

Shaw was the first to go, as Wood angled the ball in from good length, which thundered through the gate and hit the stumps. Marsh, who walked in at Shaw’s fall, had been in excellent form in the recently-concluded ODI series against India, scoring 194 runs in three matches at an average of 97. However, Wood’s first ball to Marsh was a real snorter. The ball was delivered at breakneck pace, beating Marsh for pace and crashing into the stumps. Marsh was left with a first-ball duck, and the Delhi Capitals went from 41/0 to 41/2 in no time. Captain David Warner could only watch helplessly from the other end.

Here's the video:

To be fair on Marsh, he had not left as big a gap between bat and pad as Shaw while attempting an almighty drive. However, the gap was big enough for Wood's thunderbolt to rush through. Wood's pace and accuracy were simply too much for the Delhi to handle, and they ended up losing the match by a significant margin.

Sensational win for Lucknow

On back of Wood's sensational bowling, Lucknow outclassed Delhi by a massive 50 runs in their first ITL 2023 match. With this win, Lucknow have now risen to the top of the Indian T20 League table while Delhi have been thrown to the bottom with a NRR of -2.500.

Lucknow play four time winners Chennai next on March 3rd next and would look to take their winning run forward. They finished third in the season prior and would look to get better this season. If the first match is an indication of their form, the KL Rahul led side are properly set up for a title charge this season.
