Fans are an integral part of the team albeit they do not play for the team. When it comes to football, fans gel well with the team as compared to other sports. One could only imagine the impact if something drastic happens to such fans right in front of the team. Chilean club Colo Colo has a habit of calling in fans for practice matches ahead of important games.
The open practices are called ‘Arengazo’ and the fans get a go-ahead to watch the stars toil it hard. For the unversed, Colo Colo is all set to take on Universidad Catolica on Sunday (October 2).
However, in the recent ‘Arengazo’, fans did not have an enjoyable time as a section of Santiago's Estadio Monumental stadium collapsed. The unfortunate incident took place on Friday (September 30), during their open practice session. A local newspaper named La Tercera reported that several people have been injured and also revealed the reason behind it. The newspaper reported that many sat in an improper location that caused the structure to collapse.
Scary scenes in Chile’s monumental stadium.

Fans get injured during Colo Colo open practice session
The video rocked the internet and many are concerned about the safety of the fans. However, the Colo Colo management came up with a statement on the incident. The club said in the official statement that they are looking into it.
“We regret the events that took place today... where a group of people did not respect the minimum standards of behaviour by climbing onto a structure for advertising, over which they jumped and caused part of it to collapse. Unfortunately, some of those involved were injured and were taken to the nearest medical centre,” the Colo Colo club said in the statement.
In addition to the statement, the club also assured of preventing such accidents in future. “We confirm our commitment and willingness to the authorities to continue making all necessary improvements to ensure the safety of our fans,” the statement read further.
All said and done, the ‘Arengazo’ won’t be the same anymore as the horrific incident might haunt the fans for a long time. The Colo Colo club will look to make sure that the accidents never happen.
