Manchester United secured a 1-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 30, and boosted their chances of finishing in the Premier League's top four. While the Red Devils continued their dominance at home, what happened there before the match has garnered more public attention. United fans staged massive protests outside the stadium against the club's American owners and called for a full sale of the club.

The protests come days after the third round of bidding for the Premier League club. A large number of supporters held up a banner that read "We want Glazers out," and "full sale only" amid concerns that the Glazers may still retain a majority or minority stake. They planned to boycott the league match against Aston Villa and had anti-Glazers flags and banners placed in each corner of the stadium.

The Glazer family have been in charge of Man United since 2005 and is rumoured to remain in control after targeting a partial sale of the club. Meanwhile, fans were asked to take their seat 18 minutes after kickoff on Sunday to commemorate the Glazers' 18-year ownership of the English club.

Qatar banker Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe submitted their latest bids on Friday and they are the frontrunners to buy the club. The Americans own 69 per cent of the United shares and it is estimated the price could reach around $6 billion if a full sale goes through.

This is not the first time that Red Devils supporters have protested for the club's sale. Their most intense disapproval occurred in 2021, during United's match against Liverpool at Old Trafford. A large group of fans gathered inside the stadium and created chaos on the field and in the players' dressing rooms. The incident forced officials to postpone the game for the first time in Premier League history. Supporters' anger has also been fueled by the team's decline in success over the past decade.
