Football is a physical sport. Often times a shoulder push and tussle for the ball is allowed as long as the player is not making any serious challenges on the other player.
A boot to the face however is certainly a serious challenge in any context of the game and is always awarded a yellow or even direct red card. In Liverpool vs Wolverhampton game in FA Cup, however, the decision was not what many expected it to be.
In the 2-2 draw between the two teams on Saturday, Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was seen stomping on Wolves forward Adama Traore while he was on the ground. Traore had bundled on the ground following a challenge from Liverpool defender Ibrahim Konate. While trying to jump over Traore, Robertson failed to control his leg and stomped on Traore’s face with his left foot.

To everyone’s surprise, however, the Liverpool LB didn’t receive a red card for his challenge. Not just that, but he also didn't receive a yellow card either. Since then the fans have sent Twitter buzzing with most claiming it to be a brain-dead decision from the referee and asking for Robertson to be banned for a game or two.
A Twitter user by the name Lizzie B wrote, “It clearly wasn’t a red as the offender is wearing an LFC shirt and its at Clanfield. Only reds allowed there are for the opposition, surprised the ref didn’t show a red to Traore.”
Another by the name Tejay wrote, “He looked down on him before he did it. He knew what he was doing. He’s done something similar before when landed on Davies vs Everton.”
As for the match, it ended in a 2-2 draw with Darwin Nunez and Mohammad Salah scoring from the Liverpool side whereas Goncalo Guedes and Hwang Hee-chan scoring from the Wolves side.
