Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunders locked horns in the 33rd match of the eighth season of the Women’s Big Bash League. Sydney Thunders' captain Rachael Haynes won the toss and elected to bat first. Apart from the magnificent performances by Amy Jones and Sophie Molineux, Lauren Smith stole the limelight as she was seen grooving during the second innings of the match.
The incident took place during the fourth over of the Renegades’ chase bowled by Hannah Darlington. Lauren Smith was seen enjoying her time out in the field as she was seen performing some dance steps. The incident also made the commentators laugh as they enjoyed a light moment on the field.

Coming back to the match, after opting to bat first, Thunders face an early blow as they lost the opener, Phoebe Litchfield, at the score of 7 after 3.2 overs. After losing her partner early, the other opener Amy Jones took it upon herself to take her team to a strong total. Jones and Sammy-Jo Johnson added 58 runs for the second wicket partnership.
While Jones continued to build her innings at one end, other batters struggled to get their innings going. Jones went on to score a brilliant 53 off 48 balls to take her side to 121/6 after 20 overs. Ella Hayward and Shabnim Ismail picked up two wickets each for Renegades.
In reply to Thunders’ total, the Renegades’ chase got off to a miserable start as they lost their opener Chamari Athapaththu at a score of 14. In the fourth over, Hayley Matthews also followed her opening partner back to the pavilion with a score of 17. The Renegades’ were left reeling at 30/3 after they lost Josephine Dooley for 3.
Seeing their team in trouble, captain Sophie Molineux and Courtney Webb took it upon themselves to stabilise the innings. They added 52 runs for the fourth wicket. Webb was dismissed for 29 off 27 balls scoring three boundaries.
Despite losing her partner, Molineux continued the attack on the opposition and took her team home in 18 overs. As a result, the Renegades chased down the target of 122 with 2 overs and five wickets to spare. Skipper Molineux remained unbeaten on 55 off 45 balls and was awarded ‘Player of the Match’.
