The ‘switch-hit’ became an integral part of Pietersen’s repertoire which he unleashed from time-time against bowlers irrespective of the format. He also lit up many T20 leagues across the globe with his inventive shot.

Pietersen burst onto international cricket within the famous 2005 ashes series where he became the leading run-scorer in the series. He scored a magnificent hundred in the fifth Test at the Oval smashing the likes of Glenn Mcgrath, Brett Lee and Shane Warne all around the ground.

Pietersen also scored 2 memorable Test hundreds in India which is a testament to his ability to play spin well. He scored a match-winning century in Mumbai in the second Test of the series helping his side to win the Test match. In his autobiography, Pietersen revealed receiving help from the current India head coach Rahul Dravid on how to bat against spin. He loved batting against India as he scored 6 centuries against the nation in his Test career averaging 58 against them.

The star batter’s career ended a bit prematurely as he got involved in some controversies in the latter part of his career. Nevertheless, he will still go down as one of the greatest players of all time.
