After three quick dismissals in Session 1 of Day 1, India was still going strong in the first Test against Bangladesh, with a few more in the third session. The Men in Blue began Day 2 with a score of 278/6, thanks to Shreyas Iyer's brilliant knock. However, the batter's Day 1 brilliance was cut short when he was bowled by Ebadot Hossain in the 98th over of the first inning.

Following this, R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav steadied the India innings, scoring some crucial runs for the team. An incident occurred during Session 1 of Day 2 that resulted in a five-run increase in India's total. After a Bangladesh fielder's throw hit the wicketkeeper's helmet, the Men in Blue were awarded five penalty runs.

Yasir Ali, the third man to collect the ball after R Ashwin guided the spinner, threw it to the wicketkeeper, but the ball struck his helmet, which was left on the ground. Penalty runs are awarded to the batting team if the ball is obstructed by the fielding team without the assistance of a player.

As for the game, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer's 139-run partnership helped India get into a great position. The two ended up getting 90 runs in 203 balls and 86 runs in 192 balls, respectively. Some cameos by Rishabh Pant (46 runs in 45 balls), Ravichandran Ashwin (58 runs in 113 balls), and Kuldeep Yadav (40 runs in 114 balls) helped India set a good score of 404 runs in the first innings.

After that, the Indian bowlers came in all guns blazing as they dismissed four Bangladeshi bowlers within 18 overs itself. Mohammed Siraj, in particular, was at his very best, taking three of those four wickets. Umesh Yadav also took one wicket.

The team led by KL Rahul will look to capitalize on this start and put the Bangladesh team under pressure. This match is critical for India because they need to win all of their matches in order to qualify for the Test Championship 2023 final.
