The Pakistan Super League (PSL) exhibition game between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi remained full of action. Despite being interrupted by crowd mismanagement and even a suspected bomb blast, the spectators were treated to quality T20 action. The prime among all was Iftikhar Ahmed’s explosive batting.
Quetta’s top-order batter scored 94 runs off 50 balls in his impressive knock that included six sixes in the final over bowled by Wahab Riaz. Notably, Wahab Riaz was also the pick of the bowlers for Peshawar Zalmi, returning with figures of 3-47. The Gladiators managed to post a competitive target of 185 runs for the team from Peshawar.
Iftikhar Ahmed knocked it around the park in the final over
Ahmed was batting at 58 when Wahab Riaz came in to ball the last over. Riaz had maintained impressive figures of 3-11 in 3 overs until this point. However, Ahmed seemed determined to hit every delivery out of the park. The first ball was a low full toss that he swept for a maximum on the onside.
Riaz tried a length delivery next, which fell directly in the slot for Ahmed to dispatch the ball over mid-wicket. The third delivery was deposited in the stands, straight down the ground. Riaz changed the angle and came around the wicket to mix things up. However, it did not affect Ahmed, who smashed three sixes back to back over point. While the first one was sliced, the next two were identical cut shots played on the backfoot to shorter deliveries.

However, Ahmed’s batting was not the only explosive thing from this match. The game had to be briefly halted when a bomb blast was reported in Musa Chowk, roughly 8 km from the venue. The match resumed around 1:30 PM local time after a half-hour’s break.
