Guyana Amazon Warriors won their maiden Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title after beating Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) by nine wickets, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on September 24. They won their first title in 11 years. Having qualified for the finals five times they could not taste the trophy.

Imran Tahir answered the critics as he created history after winning the CPL. He became the oldest skipper to win a T20 trophy, he beat his former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate MS Dhoni who achieved this feat at the age of 42. But now Tahir won it at the age of 44 years.

The Warriors dominated the whole of the CPL, starting from the group stage where they topped the stage with eight wins and one loss. They continued their form in the playoffs as well. Though after losing the Qualifier 1 against TKR they made a comeback and made it to the final eventually winning it this time.

The Warriors won the toss and elected to field first. With this decision, their skipper bowlers performed really well and did not let their captain down as they bowled out TKR for just 94 runs. The four-time champions did not get the start they required as they lost wickets at regular intervals. At one stage they were just 42-4 when their skipper Kieron Pollard returned to the pavilion scoring a duck. They lost six wickets for just 49 runs inside the first 10 overs. Keacy Carty scored a fighting 45-ball 38 runs but could not help the Knight to get past the three-figure mark. Dwaine Pretorius bowled a sensational spell of 4/26 runs.

In reply, the Pakistan batter Saim Ayub who had a brilliant outing in the CPL 2023, scored another half-century in the final, making it four in the tournament. He stayed till the end and finished the game in style with a six when two runs were required. He had scored 478 runs in 13 matches for the champions.

The 44-year-old leg spinner was happy after winning the title as he faced a lot of criticisms and banter when he beacme the captain for the champion side.
