Durban Super Giants put on a show in the 8th match of the SA20 on Monday in Durban. A combined effort with the bat from the team helped the team notch a mammoth score of 216 runs in the first innings. K Mayers and Mulder set the tone with a 62-run partnership in the first six overs.

Quinton De Kock carried on the momentum and smashed an array of fours and sixes. He hit five fours and 4 sixes en-route to his knock of 57 runs in just 31 balls. He would have scored a lot more had Evan Jones not pulled off a stunning catch in the 15th over of the innings.

Lungi Ngidi bowled an off-cutter outside the off-stump. De Kock tried to smash it for another biggie but the ball had too much width and the South African couldn’t control the shot properly.

De Kock, as a result, got a thick edge that went short third man and backward point. Evan Jones ran to his left and also bumped into his teammates. Luckily, both of them escaped the collision and Jones held on to the catch as well.

Here’s a look at the video of the incident:

De Kock got out in the 15th over but Klaasen carried on his brutal hitting as he smashed a half-century in just 19 deliveries. He stayed unbeaten and lifted the team’s total over 200.

In pursuit of the target, Paarl Royals didn’t make a great start as they had lost the likes of Buttler, Lubbe, and Miller cheaply. Eoin Morgan and Dan Vilas kept reignited hopes with a 114-run partnership. But, both of them departed in successive deliveries and the Royals fell 27 runs short of the target, eventually.

For the Super Giants, Reece Topley was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 34 in 4 overs. They now have 2 wins in 3 matches, while the Royals have a solitary win in as many games.
