Watch: Ellyse Perry takes a stunner to help Sydney Sixers win their third consecutive WBBL match

The eighth season of the women's Big Bash League is underway and is already turning out to be an action-packed affair like previous seasons. Recently, a stunning catch from Ellyse Perry went viral on social media from Match six of the tournament. The incident took place in the second innings of the match between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers.

It was the fifth ball of the 16^th over bowled by Ashleigh Gardner when Kim Garth used her feet to smash the ball over point, but she couldn’t quite manage to clear Ellyse Perry at point. The ball was just travelling over Perry as she jumped and grabbed a stunning catch.

Ashleigh Gardner's all-round show seals the deal for Sydney Sixers

Coming back to the match, Melbourne Stars captain Nicole Faltum called it correctly at the toss and invited Sydney Sixers to bat first. Sixers lost the opener, Suzie Bates, early in the innings at the score of 15. Despite the early blow, Alyssa Healy continued the attack on the opposition and kept the run rate in check.

She was dismissed for a well-made 43 off 32 balls, as the Sixers lost their second wicket on the score of 74. Contributions from captain Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner and Erin Burns took their team to a respectable total of 147 in their allotted 20 overs. Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland picked up two wickets each for the stars.

The Stars’ chase got off to a good start as the openers Lauren Winfield-Hill and Bess Heath added 50 runs for the first wicket in seven overs. However, after their dismissal, they suffered a collapse as they were reduced to 74/4 after 12.1 overs. Kim Garth and Nicole Faltum took it upon themselves to bring their team back into the game. However, Garth’s dismissal ended their 24-run stand.

The Stars could never recover after that and could only manage to reach 120/9 at the end of their 20 overs. Sydney Sixers won the match by 27 runs as Maitlan Brown picked up 3/25 in her four overs. Ashleigh Gardner was awarded ‘layer of the Match for picking up two wickets and scoring 24 with the bat.
