The India vs Pakistan match in the 20-20 World Cup turned out to be an action-packed thriller as India stole a win from the jaws of defeat on the final ball of the match. Ravichandran Ashwin hit the winning runs as he played a lofted drive over mid-off against Mohammad Nawaz. Ashwin walked in to bat after Dinesh Karthik, India’s finisher, was stumped on the penultimate ball of the match with India still requiring two runs for victory. In a video released by the Indian Cricket Board on Tuesday, Karthik is seen thanking Ashwin for saving him.

The video which covers the journey of the Indian team from Melbourne to Sydney was posted by the Indian Cricket Board on its Twitter handle. The video also features a fun interaction between Karthik and Ashwin. Karthik is heard saying, “Thank you for saving me yesterday. Thank you for saving me. Cool and calm.” While Ashwin is seen laughing hearing Karthik’s words.

The last over of the match against Pakistan was full of drama as India needed 16 runs to win off the final six balls. Hardik Pandya got caught out on the very first ball trying to clear the fence. Following Hardik’s dismissal, Dinesh Karthik walked in and gave the strike back to Virat Kohli on the second ball of the over. Kohli managed to get a couple on the third as India required 13 off the last three balls.

Kohli smashed the fourth ball which was a waist-high full toss for a six and the umpire signalled it a ‘no-ball’. Mohammed Nawaz was seen under extreme pressure as he also bowled a couple of wides. After Karthik got out stumped on the second last ball, Ashwin held his nerve and didn’t play any rash shots as he let the next ball go for a wide. He took the team home on the final ball and celebrated in style with Virat Kohli who remained unbeaten on 82 off 53 balls.

India will next face the Netherlands on 27th October at Sydney Cricket Ground in their second match of the 20-20 World Cup.
