When Gujarat Titans were tasked to bat first, B Sai Sudharsan's 96 in 47 balls helped them record a score of 214/4. In response, the rain gods broke up once more in the first over, stopping CSK's pursuit. After a weather delay, the target was changed to 171 in 15 overs, which CSK achieved in the last ball at a crowded Narendra Modi Stadium thanks to Ravindra Jadeja's six and four against Mohit Sharma on the final two deliveries to seal the victory for the Yellow Army.
MS Dhoni’s statement after the match against Gujarat Titans
MS Dhoni spoke to the media in the post-match presentation after beating Gujarat Titans in the final of the 2023 IPL. He was asked whether this is his last IPL game ever and he said, “Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be working hard for nine months and try to play another IPL. It would be a gift for the fans from my side, won't be easy on the body."
The CSK skipper then applauded Ambati Rayudu, who announced his retirement from the IPL. He said, “The special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100 per cent when he is on his field. But with him in the team, I will never win the fair play award. I've been playing with him for a long time, since the India A tours."
