Watch: Crowd goes ecstatic as Sri Lanka beat Australia in the second ODI

Sri Lanka levelled the five-match ODI series 1-1 as they beat Australia by 26 runs (DLS method) in the second ODI at Pallekele. The Sri Lankan bowlers destroyed the Australian batting attack while defending a rain-revised target of 216 in 43 overs. Chasing the total, Australia could only manage 189 runs in 37.1 overs as Sri Lanka made a comeback in the series after losing the first game. Thus, this managed to please their fans.

When Sri Lanka won the game, the fans were seen passionately celebrating. It is to be noted that Dushmantha Chameera took the final wicket, and the crowd went berserk after he picked the final wicket of the game. Thus, the video of the same went viral as well.

Seamer Chamika Karunaratne was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3 wickets for 47 runs in 7 overs, while Dushmantha Chameera, Dhananjaya De Silva, and Dunith Wellalage picked up 2 wickets each. Dushmantha Chameera picked up the final wicket as he clean-bowled Matthew Kuhnemann to send the fans in frenzy.  Karunaratne picked up the crucial wickets of Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell.

Australia lost their final five wickets for just 19 runs in a dramatic collapse. In the Sri Lanka innings, De Silva also scored 34 with the bat and put on 61 runs for the third wicket with Kusal Mendis, who made 36, to guide Sri Lanka to 220 for nine when the rain came pouring down and forced the play to stop and later end the innings.

Pat Cummins was the most successful bowler from the Australian side with figures of 4-35. As the chase began, Australia lost their openers Aaron Finch and David Warner rather cheaply to De Silva. The Australian batsmen were finding it difficult to get going on a tricky pitch. Smith and Travis Head attempted to rebuild the innings and put together 31 runs before Karunaratne broke the partnership.

Karunaratne dismissed Smith for 28 and Wellalage's two wickets of Head (23) and Marnus Labuchagne (18) in his two overs put the Aussies struggling at 132-5.

Maxwell tried to attack the bowlers in his brief stay at the wicket but finally mistimed a shot to get caught at cover off Karunaratne for 30 off 25 balls. Australia’s last hope Alex Cary was runout for 15 and they could never recover after that.
