Cricket New Zealand on Monday announced their squad to play the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The team will be captained by Kane Williamson who is set to make his comeback after a long injury lay-off.

The Kiwis announced their 15-man squad as they look to win their first World Cup title. New Zealand have finished runners-up twice in 2015 and later in 2019. The 2015 World Cup loss was under Brendon McCullum. The 2019 World Cup final appearance under the captaincy of Kane Williamson saw the Kiwis lose in painful fashion.

New Zealand’s cricket body came up with a special gesture to announce their 15-man World Cup squad. The cricket body took to Twitter and had the families of New Zealand players announce the team. The video contained, the wives, girlfriends, children, and every other close family members of the players selected.

The 15-member Kiwi squad saw James Neesham and Will Young get a look–in. Opener Finn Allen and all-rounder Kyle Jamieson missed out on selection. Fast bowler Adam Milne was overlooked after he got injured once again during the ongoing England series.

The Kiwis have picked young Rachin Ravindra and Ish Sodhi along with Mitchell Santner as the spinners. Trent Boult and Tim Southee will be joined by Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry in the seam bowling department. The all-around duties will lay on the shoulders of James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell. Tom Latham will be the vice-captain of the side as well as the wicket-keeper. Glenn Philips will be the backup in the wicket-keeper role.

Devon Conway and Will Young are likely to open the batting as Mark Chapman also finds a place in the 15. The big news is that Kane Williamson is coming back from an injury he suffered during IPL 2023. The Kiwi skipper had hurt himself while trying to take a catch during the opening game between Chennai and Gujarat.
