Later, the first match of the tournament took place between Dubai Capitals and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders on Friday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Dubai Capitals put in a brilliant batting performance to notch a big score of 187 runs on the board. Robin Uthappa and Root made a steady start but the latter got out after scoring 26 runs in 21 balls.
Uthappa changed gears after that as he scored boundaries in short intervals. He scored 43 runs in 33 deliveries before departing in the 12th over. At that stage, the Capitals were going at run-a-ball but the big innings came from the bat of Rovman Powell.
He wreaked havoc with the bat, smashing 48 runs in just 29 deliveries, including 3 fours and as many sixes. Raza also chipped in with 26 off 17 balls as the Capitals amassed 187 runs in the first innings.
In reply, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders were restricted to only 114 runs, thereby losing the game by a big margin of 73 runs.
