Watch: Benfica goalkeeper produces stunning long-range goal against Trofense

Benfica Lisbon hit the right notes at the start of the tournament in the UEFA Champions League this season as they got pole position in the group of death. The group had the likes of the champions from France Paris Saint Germain, The stronghold from Italy Juventus and Maccabi Hafia a club from Israel.

In the same vein, spirited performances were shown by Benfica B in Liga Portugal 2 when the played against Trofense on Monday. Benfica B are at present on the third place on the points table. The have won four consecutive League games on the trot. The Liga Portugal 2 club registered an amazing 2-1 victory over Trofense in an away game.

Benfica B scored the goal in the 65th minute

In a high-octane clash, the first goal was scored by Trofense defender Mutsinzi. This lead was uninterrupted till half-time. Things turned on its head when Benfica goalkeeper Samuel Soares which was earmarked as a Puskas award-worthy goal. An equaliser found its way in the 65th minute when Soares produced a long-range kick that flew and found its way to the goal. It was a superb kick from Soares.

The goal ended up registering itself as an own goal because of Trofense goalkeeper Miguel Santos. The kick from Soares ended up smashing onto the crossbar and when it bounced it hit Santos before the ball sneaked into the goal. Benfica striker Luis Semendo scored the winning goal for his team in the 82nd minute and this helped his team stay ahead by three points over Porto B who are in the fourth position. 

In the 2018-19 season, there were 18 teams in what was a nationwide tournament that included the reserve teams as well from the top clubs. This tournament is wholly organised in Portugal. The division title has been won by Twenty different teams. The most successful team is Pacos de Ferreia who have four wins to their credit which includes the first season and the 2018-19 season.
