The Big Bash League (BBL) has been a wonderful tournament in churning out the next generation of Australian cricketers. This edition has seen three matches being played so far. Sydney Thunder won their first game against Melbourne Stars in a low-scoring thriller. Adelaide Strikers bossed the Sydney Sixers by 51 runs in the second game.

Melbourne Renegades won a close encounter by 22 runs against the Brisbane Heat. Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars are playing the fourth game. Joe Clarke made headlines for Melbourne as he smashed an unbeaten 101 off just 66 balls with nine fours and four sixes. This allowed Melbourne to get to 183-5 in their 20 overs.

But what hogged the headlines in the Big Bash League was a cracking shot from Beau Webster. It was a good-length ball from Riley Meredith. He bowled it straight and Webster gave himself room and walloped the ball deep into the stands over mid-wicket. The ball ended up going to the third tier of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This shot had the potential to be the longest six at the MCG.

Here is the video:

In the chase, Hobart did not get off to a good start as Ben McDermott and D Arcy Short departed quickly for 17 and 15 respectively as they fell to Luke Wood and Adam Zampa. Mathew Wade scored a run-a-ball 35 with one four and one six before he was dismissed by Nathan Coulter Nile.

Shadab Khan departed for just 7 when he was caught by Thomas Rogers off Coulter Nile. Asif Ali could not get going as he got out to Zampa and was caught by Hilton Cartwright. At the time of writing, Tim David and Jimmy Neesham are batting on 14 and 16 respectively with four boundaries between them.

The BBL has been very innovative when it has come to rule changes and trying to make the game more interesting. They had rules like the super sub and the power surge brought on. When the power surge comes in, there will be a four-over normal powerplay and then the surge will be off two overs that can be taken at a later point in the game. The surge will have the same characteristics as the powerplay.
