The Big Bash League 2022/23 (BBL 12) is ongoing and in Match 3 of the league, Melbourne Renegades locked horns with Brisbane Heat on December 15, Thursday and the former enjoyed a stupendous first innings as they managed to put on a tough total at the end of the first innings, on the back of a great-hearted innings from the fiery Australian, Nic Maddinson.

As things stand, there was a moment that caught the eye of the fans, when the Heat’s star bowler Mark Steketee bowled the eighth over of the first innings. Trying to pull a short ball, Maddinson was baffled that the bails got dislodged even when the ball was far away from the stumps. Eventually, fans shared the hilarious video on the internet and a few called ‘Ghost Play’.

Here is the video featuring Nic Maddinson

Melbourne Renegades prove might in first innings vs Brisbane Heat in BBL 12

As things stand, the Renegades got off to a great start and it was Maddinson who stood up for the team with his well-crafted 87. Aaron Finch disappointed as he made his way back after scoring only 4 runs to his name, while the likes of Sam Harper and Jonathan Wells perished for cheap scores.

However, it was Andre Russell who ensured that his team stayed alive in the game with his aggressive innings. The Caribbean star started scoring maximums for fun and eventually was scoring at a strike rate of 130. The Heat’s pacers, on the other hand, were thriving to control the run flow and managed to come up with tight lengths, making it tough for Russell to score runs freely.

After fighting hard for 20 overs, on the back of Russell’s quickfire 35, the Renegades managed to put on 166/7 on the board at the end of the first innings and it remained to be seen if the total would be enough given that the Heat have a strong batting line-up and they can destroy opponents on their given day. Fans, on the other hand, hoped for a tough fight with the ball from the Renegades and eventually believed that they would win the game.
