The West Indies cricket star Andre Russel is currently playing his trade in the Big Bash League season 12. Playing for the Melbourne Renegades the 34-year-old hit a six that has made a record in the ongoing BBL.
The Renegades were struggling at 9/4 when Russel walked in. The team needed a strong partnership in the middle to steady the ship and that is what he did. He however did it in his own style.
Bating at 0 off 3 balls the West Indies batter smashed a massive six on the third ball of the 10th over. The six came off James Bazley who bowled a half volley which was smacked on the on side by the strong batter.
The ball ended up landing on the top of the roof igniting a massive roar from the spectators. The six also smashed the record for the biggest six in this season’s tournament.

While a cool Russell smiled quickly realising what he’d achieved, fans and commentators were left stunned.
“It’s on the roof!” Fox Crickets Brendon Julian said. "What about the Big Bash! That is a huge hit. It’s a cracking over, but that is a cracking finish (by Russell). How well did he hit that? Right out of the middle of the bat. Absolutely smoked that,” added Julian from the commentary box.
He's a powerful stroke-maker- Brett Lee
Russel who hits third on the all-time list of six hitters below Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard was hailed by bowling great Brett Lee as well. “He’s just such a powerful stroke-maker. Good bat speed,” Aussie great Brett Lee said.
Russel went on to make a match-winning 57 off 42 and helped Renegades get an easy win in the end with 4 balls to spare.
In the post-match interview when Renegades coach David Saker was asked what he said to Russel before his knock, he said, “You just want him to stay to his strengths. Keep looking to hit the ball down the ground.”
“A couple of shots he’d tried to get quite cute, so stick to your strengths. “But it’s a hell of an entertaining innings so far.”
