Rahmanullah Gurbaz is hailed as one of the rising stars in Afghanistan cricket. He has been a sensation for the team of late. In the last edition of the Indian T20 League, Gujarat franchise in the bought him as a replacement for English opener Jason Roy. He has been in superb form and showed his class in the first Super 4 match against Sri Lanka albeit it went in vain.

He played a quickfire 84 off 45 balls against Sri Lanka on Saturday and pushed his team's total past the 170-run mark. The 20-year-old broke the record set by Rohit Sharma way back in 2016 to register the highest individual score in the Asia Cup 20-20 format.

In an interview with CricTracker on the BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show, Wasim Jaffer said that the Gujarat team will retain him in the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League. The former cricketer pointed out that the team kept him out of the playing XI because of the strength in playing XI and predicted that the youngster will be retained.

"I had said earlier that Rahmanullah Gurbaz is an exciting player and he should have gotten an opportunity to play at the IPL 2022, where he was with Gujarat Titans. He did not get an opportunity to play this season because Gujarat Titans had Matthew Wade for some time, and then Wriddhiman Saha. Also apart from that, Gujarat Titans were in great form throughout the season and they had a wonderful tournament," he said.

"So, when you win so many games on a trot, you don't need many changes in the playing combination because the team is in form, and that might have been a reason why Gurbaz did not get to play. He is an exciting player and I am sure Gujarat Titans will retain him for the next edition of the IPL, and about from that he might as well be given the chance to play and be a part of the combination,” Jaffer concluded.
