Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa due to a twisted ankle and it was reported that the pacer remains doubtful for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. However, the Indian cricket board has now revealed the replacement for Chahar on October 8, Saturday, on their social media accounts, for the ongoing series against South Africa.

The statement further read that the pacer was ruled out of the series due to a stiff back and Chahar will now head back to National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. “The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Washington Sundar as a replacement for Deepak Chahar for the remainder of the ODI series against South Africa,” the statement read.

“Mr. Chahar had a stiffness in his back after the third and final T20I against South Africa in Indore and did not feature in India’s Playing XI in the first ODI in Lucknow. He will now head back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will be monitored by the Medical Team there,” it read further.

Sundar to don India jersey after eight months

With regards to Sundar, the allrounder last played an ODI for India in the month of February against West Indies. Since then, he has been dealing with injury woes and the allrounder was also ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour. After eight long months, the spinner will make a return to the Men in Blue ODI setup and will look to make a mark for himself.

The next ODI will be played on October 9 at Ranchi and the final ODI will be played on October 11 at New Delhi. As it stands, India are currently trailing 1-0 in the series and the second ODI is a must-win for the Shikhar Dhawan–led team.
