Several famous franchises, including Chennai and Gujarat, have reportedly chosen not to bid for a team in the upcoming Women's Indian T20 League.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi have submitted official expressions of interest for the league. Lucknow are also believed to have abstained, and there is no official confirmation about the participation of Punjab Kings, but the report suggests that they were present at the designated location with bid papers.

Chennai however has officially announced their withdrawal from the Indian T20 League. In a reported statement Chennai franchise said, "We are not bidding for the Women's Indian T20 League, it was a strategic business call."

Although the confirmed list of the sponsors is yet to be revealed, reports suggest that big corporations like Haldiram's, Adani Group, JK Cement and others are looking to get the sponsor rights for the mega tournament.

Those who meet the criteria set by the Indian Cricket Board will have the opportunity to bid for the rights on Wednesday. INR 1000 Crore has been set as the key requirement for the clause. Chennai's withdrawal has come out as a shock to the fans of the Indian T20 League and the MS Dhoni-led Chennai franchise side. As soon as the reports of their pullback surfaced on the internet, cricket fans voiced their opinions on the matter.

The Women's Indian T20 League has been planned to start in March 2023 with 5 teams. The format of the league is reported to be a double Round Robin followed by knockouts. Women cricketers from all over the world are expected to get into the auction pool wherein they would be bid by different franchises.

Recently the media rights for the upcoming cricket extravaganza was bought by Viacom 18 for INR 951 Crore which puts its the second most lucrative T20 league in the world right next to the Men's Indian T20 Legaue.
