Former India opening batter, Gautam Gambhir has made some interesting comparisons between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's captaincy in Tests. Gambhir was speaking after the Day Three of the second Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On the day, India beat Australia by four wickets after picking nine wickets in the first session. Meanwhile, Gambhir started by saying that Sharma is an amazing captain.
However, the former maintained that there is not much of a difference between Virat and Rohit. The two-time World Cup winner for India, Gambhir added that Kohli set the template for India in Test matches, followed by his successor, Sharma
"Honestly, I have always believed that Rohit Sharma is an amazing captain, but there is not much difference between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's captaincy, especially in this format. Virat Kohli started this template," Gambhir told Star Sports.
Virat Kohli has led the India Test team exceptionally well: Gautam Gambhir
Meanwhile, Gautam has praised Kohli's captaincy in the longest format of the game. The former said that Kohli led the team exceptionally well during his tenure. Kohli's tenure as Test captain was from early 2015 to early last year. From 2016 to early 2022, the team remained the number one Test side.
Meanwhile, Gambhir made an interesting observation about Rohit and Virat's captaincy while handling the spin twins of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The cricketer-turned-politician said that both captains handle the spin twins pretty much the same way.
"Virat Kohli has captained exceptionally well whenever he has captained this Test team and Rohit is probably following that template only. Honestly, Rohit has not created his own template. The way Virat Kohli managed Ashwin and Jadeja, it is absolutely identical captaincy," Gambhir added.
