Virat Kohli has been one of the biggest bright spots for India in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He has scored 296 runs in six matches at an average of 98.66 and a strike rate of 136.40 with four fifties and a highest score of an unbeaten 82 against Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup opener.
Kohli came back to roaring form in the Asia Cup 2022 after not being able to get a big century for three years. He scored 276 from five innings at an average of 92 and a strike rate of 147.59. He also scored his maiden T20 hundred against Afghanistan in India’s last Asia Cup encounter.
His hundred consisted of 122 off 61 balls. He scored the runs at a strike rate of 200. With six sixes and 12 fours. This signalled his return to form. In a World Cup where most of the Indian players underperformed. He along with Suryakumar Yadav was the silver lining for India.
After the shock exit from the 20-20 World Cup, Kohli put out this tweet, “We leave Australian shores short of achieving our dream and with disappointment in our hearts, but we can take back a lot of memorable moments as a group and aim to get better from here on.” the ace India batter said in a tweet.
Jos Butler and Alex Hales 170 run partnership blew away India
India were thoroughly outplayed by England in the semi-final where the Three Lions restricted India to just 168-6 in their 20 overs. Adil Rashid was the pick of the bowlers for England as he conceded only 20 runs off his four overs and picked up the big wicket of Suryakumar Yadav.
The Men in Blue failed to break their semi-final jinx at the big events. The last time they won a trophy at a main event was in 2013 when India where crowned Champions Trophy winners in 2013 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni which incidentally came against England.
In the second innings, India were blown away by 170 run opening partnership between Alex Hales and Jos Buttler who made sure the 169 target was a breeze as they chased down the runs in just 16 overs. England will now take on Pakistan in the final which is to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13.
