Virat Kohli has regained his form after a rough patch of almost three years. The 'run machine' who used to score centuries for fun had to go through a tough phase in which his bat failed to find runs. However, Kohli has been slowly returning to his normal form since last year's Asia Cup, ending his century drought in all formats of the game.
The former India captain started off the 2023-25 World Test Championship on a high note, ending his five-year wait for an overseas century. He had a century and a half-century to his name in the recently concluded Test series against West Indies, where India won the two-match series 1-0. The right-handed batter smashed 197 runs in two innings at an average of 98.5 and was the third-highest run-scorer of the series.
Kohli has staggering record against West Indies in ODIs
As Kohli returns to form, it is time for him to gradually shatter and create new records. The 34-year-old will next play in his strongest format, ODIs, when India takes on Windies in a three-match series. He has scored 2261 runs, nine centuries and 11 fifties at an average of 66.50 in 42 ODIs against the Caribbean side.
If he could continue the dominance in the upcoming series, a major milestone is awaiting the ace batter. Kohli currently holds the world record for the most number of centuries against a single team in ODI cricket. He has scored 10 centuries in 50 matches against Sri Lanka. If he manages to reach triple figures twice in the upcoming series, he can break his own record with 11 centuries against West Indies.
In total, Kohli has scored 46 centuries in his ODI career so far, with 19 of them coming against Sri Lanka and the West Indies combined. Australia is the next team Kohli has scored the most hundreds against - 8. Meanwhile, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is third in the overall list with nine centuries against the Kangaroos.
Kohli has scored 12898 runs in 274 ODIs, which means he needs just 102 more runs to reach 13000 runs. The ODI series will begin on July 27 with Barbados hosting the first two matches.
