Yesterday, the Netherlands pulled off an upset against Sri Lanka. Today, Scotland shocked West Indies, beating them by 42 runs at Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Perhaps, you couldn’t get a better start to a 20-20 World Cup than this.

Scotland were outstanding in all three departments as they outclassed two-time 20-20 World Cup winners in their first match of the big-ticket event on Monday. It was West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran, who won the toss and elected to bowl first.

But the bowlers couldn’t provide a great start as the likes of George Munsey and Michael Jones gave Scotland a brilliant start with the bat. The duo added 55 runs in the power play. Jones (20 off 17) got out just after the power play but had done his job by then.

The arrival of rain gods slowed down things for Scotland as West Indies pulled it back in the middle period of the innings. But crucial cameos from MacLeod (23 off 14) and Chris Greaves (16 off 11) ensured Scotland didn’t notch a small total on the board. Munsey struggled a bit in the middle overs but finish the innings strongly to guide the team to a formidable score of 160 runs on the board. He played an unbeaten knock of 66 runs in 53 balls, including 9 fours.

In pursuit of the target, West Indies openers also made a fierce start. Kyle Mayers hit some great shots en-route to his 13-ball 20 but, unfortunately, got out while trying to hit shots one too many. Once he got out, wickets fell at short intervals.

Evin Lewis (14 off 13) never looked comfortable in the middle as he wasn’t able to time the ball properly. The likes of Brandon King (17 off 15), Nicholas Pooran (4), Rovman Powell (4), and Shamarh Brooks (4 off 9) all got out on low scores.

At the end of 10.1 overs, West Indies had lost half of their side for just 69 runs. Jason Holder (38 off 33) showed some fight but there was little support at the other end. In the end, the two-time World Cup winners were bowled out for just 118 runs.

On a second consecutive occasion, West Indies have begun their 20-20 World Cup campaign with a big loss. Twitter is abuzz with numerous reactions. Here’s a look at some of them
