In a recent piece of news, Sri Lanka finally announced their squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, India. The selectors revealed the 15-member squad, alongside one reserve on Tuesday, September 26. Sri Lanka, alongside Bangladesh, were the team who didn’t announce their squad till now. After Sri Lanka’s announcement, Bangladesh are the only team left to announce the World Cup squad.

Recently, Sri Lanka were in action in the Asia Cup 2023 where they had a forgettable outing in the final of the tournament against India. The Islanders were bundled out just at the score of 50 runs in 15.2 overs against the ferocious pace trio of Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah.

However, Dasun Shanaka’s men had a great run in the tournament except for their performance in the summit clash of the tournament against the men in blue. They defeated Pakistan in the last super-4 match of the tournament which was also a virtual semi-final of the tournament. They won the thrilling clash by a close margin of 2 wickets to reach the title clash of the 16th edition of the tournament.

Dasun Shanaka (C), Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushan Hemantha, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Kasun Rajitha, Matheesha Pathirana, Lahiru Kumara and Dilshan Madushanka.

Reserve – Chamika Karunaratne

Sri Lanka will start their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with their first match against South Africa on Saturday, October 7. Both teams will play at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Whereas, they’ll be playing their second match against the five-time World Cup champions, Australia on Monday, October 16 at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow.

Notably, Sri Lanka will be missing the services of the star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga who was ruled out of the tournament due to the injury that he sustained during the Lanka Premier League 2023.
