Pakistan’s former fast-bowling legend Waqar Younis calls himself “half-Aussie” during a post-match interview of the match between Pakistan and Australia. It all unfolded when Waqar Younis was live with Star Sports after the match along with former Australian stalwarts Shane Watson and Aaron Finch. During the show, the presenter addressed him as Pakistani to which he surprisingly replied “I'm a half Aussie, don't just call me a Pakistani,".

Waqar Younis married a Pakistan origin doctor Faryal in the year 2000 and he has 2 daughters and 1 son with her. Waqar Younis resides with his family in the town of New Castle in New South Wales and holds an Australian Nationality along with a Pakistani one. So he is not completely wrong when he makes such a statement.

Australia crushed Pakistan in a high-scoring match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, thanks to centuries from David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Despite Shaheen Afridi's five-wicket haul, Australia posted a mammoth 367/9, which Pakistan was unable to chase down, falling 62 runs short. Adam Zampa starred with the ball for Australia, picking up 4/53.

Waqar Younis’s statement induced responses from fans all over the World

Now each loss Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the World Cup keep diminishing at a rapid pace and given the fact that Pakistan is set to even tougher matches as the tournament progresses doesn’t make it any better for them. Pakistan is set to face spirited Afghanistan in the next match at M.A Chidambaram stadium in Chennai and the wicket of Chennai is known for suiting spinners which will make this match not an easy sailing for Pakistan.

Despite having an Australian nationality, this statement from the former Pakistan speedster didn’t go down well with fans as he has made a name for himself playing for Pakistan and his sidelining Pakistan on such a global stage puts Pakistan in a bad light.

Here are some of the witty responses from fans all over the world over Waqar Younis’s surprising statement:
