The 1st ODI between India and South Africa ended with India dominating the Proteas completely with a terrific 8-wicket win at the Wanderers. The South African batters were struggling in the first innings none of them could put up a score on the board. On the other hand, the Indian bowlers were on song and kept getting wickets at regular intervals. They were skittled out for a modest total of 116 with only two batters having a score over 20. It is safe to say that this was an embarrassing performance by the South African batters.

This total was not enough to put pressure on the India batters as they comfortably chased down the target in 16.4 overs. Unlike the South Africans, they looked much more in control and made life hell for the bowlers. Everything was going according to plan for KL Rahul and his men with both bat and ball and they will go with a lot of confidence going forward in the series with this amazing victory. This will also be a big confidence booster for the young Indian players as well.

The Indian heroes of the match

The Indians were exceptional with both bat and ball and they were looking really good in this match. The bowlers were fantastic and stuck to their line and lengths with the new ball which was seaming and had some bounce as well. Arshdeep Singh was one of the big heroes with an incredible 5-fer in just his fourth-day game. His figures of 5-37 in 10 overs were enough to create havoc in the South African innings. His spell also gave confidence to Avesh Khan who was also exceptional on the day with his 4-wicket haul.

The other hero was none other than debutant Sai Sudharshan who scored a beautiful half-century with great strokeplay and timing. The young left-hander scored 55 from just 43 balls at a great strike rate of 127.91. He and Shreyas Iyer put up a great partnership to put the South African bowlers under pressure and finish the game to give India an early 1-0 lead. Both half-centuries made by Iyer and Sudharshan made batting look easy and gave India an easy 8-wicket win.
