Indian cricket has a very rich history which the people and fans have cherished for several years. There have been many legendary players, who have cemented their names in the history of Indian cricket even after their retirement. One of those players are Mahendra Singh Dhoni.The former India skipper has been part of some of the iconic moments in Indian cricket whether its winning trophies or as a finishing player. The powerful wicket keeper and batter from Jharkhand has not only etched his name as one of the best keepers and finishers, but as one of the greatest leaders as well.

The Indian Cricket Board has decided to retire the iconic number 7 jersey as tribute to the master. This means that no other player in future can wear this or use this number. It's no surprise since no one can see anybody replacing Dhoni and living up to the standards that he had created in his long international career of 15 years. This will be a moment to remember for every cricket fan as they will not see the number 7 jersey again and will be missing it for a long time.

The story behind Dhoni’s jersey

There is no long story behind why Dhoni chose the number 7 jersey. Many believed that it is his lucky number or it was chosen because he was a big football fan. However, there is no expectional story underlying it. It is a very simple reason as to why he selected the number 7, was because he was born on the 7th of July. This is no surprise since he has been known to keep things simple and not complicate it. The jersey may not have an iconic story but Dhoni’s journey was exceptional, which made it iconic.

The fans and all the players who consider him as an inspiration will always remember captain cool. Even after the retirement of one of the most iconic jerseys in the history of cricket, every Indian fan will remember chanting his name and will know that whoever will have number 7 behind can only be Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
