Rishabh Pant has not been in the best of forms with the bat for India in recent times. He has not been able to replicate the rich vein of form that he shows for the Delhi franchise in the Indian T20 League. In the 20-20 World Cup he was sidelined for the entire tournament in Australia except for the game against Zimbabwe and in the semi-final against England.

Pant had scored just 9 runs from two games. He has not been able to replicate the big-hitting form that he gets in ODIs and tests. He has just scored 364 in 2022 in T20Is in 25 matches which has been very low by the lofty standards that he has set for himself.

In the T20 series against New Zealand, he played only two matches and scored 17 runs in two innings. He opened the innings in the two chances that he got, but it did not make a difference as his bad patch with the bat continued. Even in the first ODI that took place on Friday, he scored only 15 off 23 balls with two fours before he was bowled by Lockie Ferguson.

Before the 20-20 World Cup. he did not have a good Asia Cup as well. In the multilateral tournament, He had scored just 51 runs in the three innings that he played. He scored the runs at an average of 25.50 and a strike rate of 124.39. In the multilateral tournament, it did not help his cause either that Dinesh Karthik and he was constantly rotated as India were looking to seal the wicketkeeper’s spot between the two.

He has been coping with a lot of criticism for his non-performance in T20s and also since he has been getting a lot of chances, but he has failed to capitalise on the large number of opportunities that he got. He needs to pick up the pieces quickly and score the runs otherwise it could lead to his ouster from the side.

Twitter was abuzz, let us take a look at the reactions here-
